(YEI RIVER COUNTY)- The director for Yei county health department is calling on residents living with epilepsy to visit the facility for essential medication and treatment.
Speaking to Access Radio on Thursday, Simon Sebit emphasized the importance of consistent treatment in managing epilepsy and improving patients’ quality of life.
“I can assure you that we are treating epilepsy cases here at Yei County Referral Hospital. We started this activity of treatment in August 2022,” he said.Mr. Sebit explained that the hospital currently has sufficient medication available, which is provided to patients on a regular basis after proper assessment.
“We have the drugs, and we refill them monthly for those who come to us. After assessment, we open a file for each patient and begin providing medication,” he said.He added that patients living far from the hospital may receive medication covering up to two months, depending on availability. Meanwhile, those within the town are given monthly refills due to the high number of patients accessing the service.
“The number of clients receiving medication monthly is large nearly 600 patients,” he noted. The hospital is urging all individuals living with epilepsy to come forward and access treatment. With Epilepsy affecting thousands across South Sudan, this initiative aims to ensure that essential medication reaches those who need it most.
