(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County Hon Emmanuel Taban Seme has expressed deep sorrow following the passing of Mr Hillary Towongo Rufas Lowuya, the father of former Yei Youth Union Chairperson, Mr Johnson Puru Hillary.
Speaking during a condolence visit to the family in Yei on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, Hon Taban described the late Towongo as a wise and respected elder who contributed greatly to the community. He said the deceased was not only a family man but also a mentor to many young people and a key figure in preserving and passing on community history.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of elder Towongo. He was a father, a mentor, and a man of great wisdom who played an important role in our society. His guidance and leadership will be greatly missed,” the Commissioner said.
According to medical reports, the late Towongo passed away after developing complications related to typhoid, ulcers, coughing, loss of appetite and severe anaemia. He was 73 years old at the time of his death.
Family members, friends, and community leaders have joined in mourning the late elder, describing him as a unifying figure whose advice was always sought in times of community decision making.
The Commissioner extended condolences on behalf of the county leadership, assuring the family of the community’s support during this difficult time. “May his soul rest in eternal peace,” he added.
