(MOROBO COUNTY) – The commissioner of Morobo County, Joseph Mawa, has facilitated the release of a civilian identified as Sallah, who had spent several months in a military detention facility in the county.
The release followed a meeting on Tuesday between Commissioner Mawa and the area’s SSPDF army commander. Sallah had been arrested on allegations of rebel activity but was cleared of all charges and released.
The army commander formally handed Sallah over to Commissioner Mawa in good health. Speaking to the commissioner, Sallah confirmed that he had been well-treated during his detention and was not subjected to any physical torture.
Commissioner Mawa welcomed Sallah’s release and said he would soon be reunited with his family later in the week.
He praised the military for maintaining security and protecting civilians and highlighted the importance of cooperation between the military, county authorities, local security agencies, and community leaders in ensuring peace and safety in the county.
Meanwhile, human rights activist Mawa Manase, a civil society leader in Morobo County, had earlier called on county and state authorities to deploy a resident judge to help address human rights concerns and strengthen the rule of law in the area.
