The crime incident at the Irish Bridge
(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY ) – At least nine people have died after drowning at the Lubajo crossing near the Kajo-Keji airstrip in Kajo-Keji County on Wednesday.
The victims included eight women and one child, while five others survived the incident.
The group was traveling in a Land Cruiser from Juba to attend a funeral service in Bori Boma when the tragedy occurred.
The incident happened after heavy rainfall flooded the Irish Bridge, making it impossible for the driver to navigate safely. The vehicle was eventually swept away by the fast-moving water.
Witnesses at the scene described the incident as unfortunate, while others blamed the government for failing to address the poor condition of the Kajo-Keji–Juba road.
Kajo-Keji County, located in the southern part of Central Equatoria State, is a strategic area bordering Uganda.
For years, residents, farmers, and business communities in the county have repeatedly appealed to both state and national governments to prioritize rehabilitation of the main road to improve transportation and boost agricultural production in the region.
