(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Preparations are complete for the reception of the newly appointed commissioner of Yei River County, with local organizers confirming readiness ahead of his scheduled arrival on Tuesday this week.
The reception committee’s Secretary for Information and Public Relations, Gaga Frank, told Access Radio on Monday that both the venue and residents are fully prepared to welcome the new county leader.
According to Gaga, the commissioner will be officially received at the Koya border point along the Yei–Lainya road. The program will include brief public stopovers at Yei Airstrip, Yei River Bridge, and Jigomoni Primary School, followed by an installation ceremony at the county headquarters and a public rally at Yei Freedom Square.
Gaga called on residents to turn out in large numbers, emphasizing unity and collective support for the incoming commissioner.
“We should receive the commissioner with one heart. This unity reflects peace, love, and togetherness among all communities. I urge the public to support the new commissioner positively for the development of Yei,” he said.
The new commissioner is expected to arrive alongside a state delegation, including the commissioners of Lainya and Morobo counties.
The development comes amid growing calls for strengthened local leadership in the greater Yei region. Last week, civil society activist Victor Batali Silas urged the state government to deploy county commissioners to address governance gaps and insecurity.
He highlighted recent incidents in Tokori Boma of Lasu Payam, where three women were reportedly gang-raped and four youths abducted by unidentified armed men, stressing the urgent need for leadership presence to respond to ongoing human rights concerns.
