(JUBA) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, has pledged his administration’s commitment to peace, unity and security following a courtesy visit from the Bereka Community of Lainya County on Saturday.
The Bereka delegation visited Governor Mujung in Juba to congratulate him on his recent appointment and to present urgent concerns affecting their area. The visit provided a platform for the community to voice issues ranging from local insecurity to economic challenges.
Among the concerns raised were the persistent insecurity caused by armed groups, including the encroachment of armed cattle herders which has disrupted farming activities in the area. The community also decried poor road infrastructure and a lack of access to basic education services.
Another critical issue discussed was the heavy taxation imposed within Juba City Council. Community representatives said the multiple levies were discouraging small scale businesses and hindering entrepreneurship within the state capital.
The delegation appealed for government support in strengthening peacebuilding initiatives, promoting national cohesion, and restoring local stability.
In response, Governor Mujung thanked the Bereka community for the visit and the candid exchange. He assured them of his administration’s determination to engage stakeholders and respond to local grievances.
“My priorities are peace, unity and security,” the governor said, urging community leaders to take proactive steps by opening dialogue with young people in the area who have resorted to violence.
He encouraged the youth to participate in the national peace process and abandon armed struggle.
Various parts of Central Equatoria continue to grapple with instability linked to communal clashes, displaced populations and tensions between farming and pastoralist communities.
