(JUBA) – The leadership of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) joined Greater Bahr El Ghazal women leaders in Juba on Friday for a thanksgiving ceremony honouring the appointment of Hon. Adut Salva Kiir Mayardit as Senior Presidential Envoy on Special Programmes.
The celebration took place under the theme “Together We Are the Architects of Peace and Progress in Nation Building” and was described by organisers as an important moment for advancing women’s leadership and empowerment in South Sudan.
Speaking on behalf of the SPLM, the Secretary General, Prof. Paul Logale Jumi, congratulated Hon. Adut and said her appointment reflected not family ties but her proven ability and character. He said her role would be important in promoting women’s involvement in politics, reducing economic inequality and strengthening communities.
Victoria Bol Ring, Acting Chairperson of the Greater Bahr El Ghazal Women’s Leadership, expressed gratitude to President Salva Kiir Mayardit for appointing Hon. Adut. She said the decision increased women’s participation in governance and added momentum to the wider national push for equality.
Senior government officials attended the ceremony, including Vice President Josephine Joseph Lagu, Vice President Rebecca Nyandeng Garang, several national ministers, governors Rabi Mujung Emmanuel of Central Equatoria State and Rin Tueny Mabor of Lakes State, as well as SPLM leaders and women’s representatives from across the country.
In a press statement on online platforms, the SPLM Secretariat said the appointment of Hon. Adut reaffirmed the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment and their central role in shaping peace, progress and prosperity in South Sudan.
