(JUBA COUNTY) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State, Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, has directed the newly appointed leadership of Juba City Council to bring about noticeable improvements in the capital within 100 days.
The governor made the directive on Monday during the swearing-in ceremony held at the State Secretariat.
The new city leadership includes H.W. Christopher Sarafino Wani as Mayor, H.W. Jenifer Yabu Lasuba as Deputy Mayor for Administration and Finance, H.W. Lual Joseph Deng as Deputy Mayor for Social Services, and H.W. Stephen Lomude as Deputy Mayor for Environment and Management.
Governor Mujung said the changes at the council reflect his administration’s commitment to improving service delivery and efficiency in Juba. He urged the new team to uphold discipline, teamwork, and transparency, and to operate strictly within the law.
“I want Juba to become the second Kigali in terms of cleanliness,” Governor Mujung told the new officials. “People want a clean city, and this is your responsibility. Within your first 100 days, we must see visible change.”
He tasked the city leadership to develop a clear 100 day plan focused on road repairs, waste collection and environmental cleanliness. The governor also called for closer cooperation with the public and promised his government’s full support in implementing the plan.
Deputy Governor Paulino Lukudu Obede advised the city authorities to work in partnership with local traders rather than shutting down small businesses over tax disputes. He said small enterprises play a vital role in the city’s economy and should be supported to grow.
Mayor Sarafino Wani pledged to rebuild public confidence in the council, promising reforms in key sectors including waste management, security and roads:
“The City Council has been accused of many wrongs, but we shall restore its image,” he said.
