(CAIRO) – The Foreign Ministers of Egypt and South Sudan held a phone discussion on 7 July 2025, focusing on strengthening diplomatic and development cooperation between the two nations.
The conversation took place between Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty and South Sudan’s Foreign Minister Monday Semaya Kumba.
During the call, Abdelatty confirmed Egypt’s continued support for the security and stability of South Sudan. He said Cairo remains committed to expanding joint cooperation with Juba, especially in key sectors such as infrastructure, education and health. Egypt has long maintained a strategic interest in building strong ties with South Sudan, partly due to the country’s role in the Nile Basin.
On his part, Foreign Minister Kumba said South Sudan values its relationship with Egypt and remains committed to improving bilateral ties. He also acknowledged Egypt’s water security concerns, a key diplomatic issue linked to the management of Nile River resources.
South Sudan, which lies along the White Nile, is viewed by Cairo as an important partner in broader regional water and security arrangements.
The two ministers also discussed current regional issues affecting the Horn of Africa and East Africa, including security dynamics, peace processes and the need for coordinated responses to climate related challenges and displacement.
