(MOROBO COUNTY) – Focus groups in Morobo County have commended the growing harmony between the security forces and civilians, describing it as an encouraging outcome of the civil and military dialogues held in recent years.
The appreciation was expressed during a one day meeting at the Charismatic Church in Morobo, organised by Finn Church Aid (FCA) and its consortium partners.
The session assessed how the community and the security forces coexist and how this relationship can be strengthened. Participants included representatives of organised forces, youth, women, persons with disabilities and the media.
Moses Slash, the FCA focal person for Greater Yei, praised the people of Morobo for maintaining peaceful coexistence with security agencies. He said this progress is an important step towards encouraging refugees who fled during earlier conflicts to return home voluntarily.
Slash noted that within a relatively short time, there had been visible improvement in trust and cooperation between the army, police and civilians.
He pointed out that Morobo now stands out among other counties in the region for its stable and respectful relations between security personnel and residents.
He further urged the newly established County Peace Committee and the Directorate of Peacebuilding to continue their duties with dedication, especially as the support from the RSRTF consortium is expected to end in November 2025.
Slash reminded participants that maintaining peace and social unity requires consistent engagement from all community members.
The meeting ended with renewed calls for stronger collaboration between the Government, civil society and citizens. Participants agreed that peace can only be sustainable through continuous dialogue, mutual trust, and voluntary community initiatives aimed at preventing conflict and promoting coexistence.
According to the County Press of Morobo, the discussions in Morobo reflect South Sudan’s wider efforts to rebuild community trust after years of conflict and displacement.
Improved civil-military relations, according to participants, will help strengthen local stability and pave the way for more social and economic activities in the county.
