(MOROBO COUNTY) – A three day civil and military dialogue is taking place in Morobo County, Central Equatoria, aimed at addressing ongoing security challenges and building trust between the population and organised forces.
The gathering began on 10 September at Don Bosco Catholic Church and brought together civilians, chiefs, youth leaders, community representatives from all five payams and security personnel.
The discussions are organised by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organisation (CEPO) and its partners. The event is being facilitated by religious leaders including the Diocesan Bishop of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan, Lordship Amos Data and the Bishop of the Charismatic Church, Lordship Dada Isaiah.
In his remarks during the opening session, Morobo County Executive Director Ezbon Gale stressed the need for peace and security as a basis for social and economic development. He reminded participants of Morobo’s cultural and historical importance and called on both civilians and military personnel to work together for stability.
Civilians who attended the dialogue expressed appreciation for the forum, describing it as a useful platform to rebuild relations with the security forces and to encourage the return of displaced families. However, some participants pointed out that earlier commitments made during previous dialogues had not been fully implemented, raising concerns about follow through.
Representatives of the organised forces responded by urging stronger collaboration with community leaders. They emphasised the importance of timely and reliable information sharing, which they argued is essential for preventing insecurity and ensuring long term peace.
The event is expected to conclude tomorrow Friday with the participation of Morobo County Commissioner Hon. Charles Data Bullen, who has just returned from an international assignment.
