(LAINYA COUNTY) – Lainya County recently hosted a three day civil-military dialogue aimed at fostering cooperation and understanding between local communities and military personnel.
The event was officiated by Commissioner Hon. Robert Lasu John Morris and organised by the Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) in partnership with several consortium partners.
The Commissioner opened the dialogue by thanking the organisers for creating a platform where civilians could openly discuss concerns regarding their interactions with military officers operating in the county.
He emphasised the importance of mutual understanding and respect between the civilian population and the armed forces, describing the dialogue as a key step towards building trust.
Brigadier William, the military commander attending the event, pledged to work closely with civilians and partner organisations to improve communication, cooperation and harmony between the military and local communities. He highlighted that such collaboration is crucial for promoting security and fostering peaceful coexistence in Lainya County.
The commissioner’s office said civil-military dialogue served not only as a forum for airing grievances but also as a bridge for mutual understanding and joint problem solving.
Stakeholders also agreed that continued engagement between civilians and the military would support overall peacebuilding efforts in the greater Yei region.
