(FASHODA COUNTY) – Cycle 3 medical supplies have successfully reached Fashoda County, one of South Sudan’s most remote areas, as part of the Health Sector Transformation Project (HSTP).
The consignments, designated Lot 20, were airlifted from Juba to Malakal and then transported by river to Fashoda County Health Department, with support from implementing partner Action Against Hunger (AAH).
The delivery of essential drugs and health supplies to remote communities is a critical step in ensuring equitable access to healthcare across South Sudan. The HSTP, launched in July 2024, is a three year, government led initiative designed to improve health and nutrition services, strengthen the health system and enhance sector governance.
Funded through a multi-donor effort, including a World Bank managed trust fund and an International Development Association (IDA) grant, the project is implemented by the Ministry of Health with technical support from the World Health Organization (WHO) and UNICEF. The initiative targets 816 health facilities across all ten states and three administrative areas of South Sudan.
Officials from the project emphasised that successful deliveries, such as the recent operation in Fashoda County, are vital for improving health outcomes in hard to reach communities. The HSTP coordinates with local partners like AAH to ensure that medical supplies reach their intended destinations efficiently, contributing to better nutrition, disease prevention and overall community health.
According to a statement from the Health Ministry, the project is part of a broader effort to close gaps in health access and provide essential services to communities that previously faced significant logistical challenges:
Each successful delivery represents progress toward reducing health disparities and strengthening South Sudan’s capacity to deliver basic health services nationwide.
