(Juba) – South Sudan’s Football Federation (SSFF) has formally launched its 2025 electoral process, marking what officials describe as a significant milestone in the administration of the sport across the country.
The announcement was made on 30 June during a press briefing in Juba, where Advocate Ernest Faulo Marino, Chairperson of the SSFF Election Commission, officially opened the nomination process for key leadership positions.
These include the roles of President and Vice President, both of which will shape the future direction of South Sudanese football at national and grassroots levels.
Deputy Secretary of the Election Commission, Advocate Deng Mathiok, explained that strict eligibility criteria have been outlined to ensure that only qualified individuals are allowed to contest.
Meanwhile, Vice Chairperson Malau Ayang revealed a robust framework of electoral rules and procedures that aim to guarantee transparency and fairness throughout the entire process.
The vote is scheduled to take place on 15 August 2025 during an extraordinary electoral conference, where federation members will cast their ballots to elect the new executive leadership.
The elections are expected to determine the future of football governance in South Sudan at a time when the sector continues to face growing calls for professionalism and accountability.
A detailed timeline has also been shared with stakeholders. According to the Commission:
-
On 1 July 2025, the full electoral schedule will be officially announced.
-
From 16 to 20 July, candidates can submit nominations for positions on the Executive Committee and as Federation delegates, addressed to the Secretary General.
-
Between 21 and 25 July, the Election Commission will screen applications and inform applicants of any missing documents.
-
An additional five-day period, from 26 to 30 July, will be provided for candidates to complete their applications.
-
The preliminary list of candidates will be published on 31 July.
-
Appeals and objections to the list may be submitted from 1 to 3 August.
-
The Appeals Committee will issue final decisions by 8 August.
-
On 9 August, all official electoral documents, including the agenda and final list of candidates, will be shared with federation members.
-
The extraordinary electoral conference and the final vote will be held on 15 August 2025.
While the SSFF has not disclosed any specific financial costs related to the electoral process, similar federation activities in recent years have reportedly involved significant organisational expenses.
The electoral roadmap has drawn early praise from some observers who view it as a step toward better governance and increased credibility for the federation.
