(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) – Progressive cooperative farmers in Kajo-Keji County, Central Equatoria State are calling on the State Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development to take concrete action to boost food production this year.
Chaplain Anyik, a member of the Morling Cooperative Society—one of the leading farmers’ groups in the area told Access Radio on Tuesday that farmers in rural parts of the state lack adequate technical and financial support from the government and development partners.
Anyik emphasized that strengthening farmer groups through capacity building, improved storage facilities, better market linkages, road infrastructure, mechanized farming and access to timely and quality seeds would significantly reduce food insecurity in the region.
“I want to encourage the Ministry of Cooperatives to provide equal opportunities to cooperatives across all the six counties of the state. Kajo-Keji County has strong agricultural potential and if the cooperative sector is supported, it will have a great impact on agriculture production in Central Equatoria and help supply enough food produce for the state and the whole country,” he said.
Kajo-Keji County, located in Central Equatoria State, lies within South Sudan’s green belt region, known for its favorable rainfall and climate conditions suitable for agricultural production.
