(JUBA) – The Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has issued an official update on salary processing tariffs for the year 2025, setting out what banks and fintech service providers may charge when disbursing wages across the country.
The updated list dated 4 July 2025 was released through the Directorate of Supervision and Financial Stability to enhance transparency and standardisation in the financial sector.
The announcement published under the “Public Education” section of the central bank’s website outlines both fixed fees and percentage based charges used by financial institutions for processing salaries.
The list includes commercial banks and digital financial services such as mobile money platforms that are increasingly used in South Sudan for wage payments.
According to the circular, banks like Horizon Bank and Equity Bank South Sudan Limited have set a low flat rate fee of 500 South Sudanese Pounds (SSP), which is approximately $0.11 using the official exchange rate of $1 = 4,600 SSP.
Eden Commercial Bank charges 1,500 SSP ($0.33), while Nile Commercial Bank has a fee of 1,000 SSP ($0.22). Phoenix Commercial Bank’s charge is the highest among the fixed fees at 2,000 SSP ($0.43).
Other institutions apply a percentage based model. Alpha Commercial levies 0.3% on salary amounts above 50,000 SSP (approximately $10.87), while Afriland First Bank and the Commercial Bank of Ethiopia apply 0.5% and 0.3%, respectively, on all amounts processed.
Fintech providers also feature prominently in the updated tariff structure. MTN’s MoMo service charges 2% of the processed salary amount, while Digitel’s Digicash Service applies a fixed fee of 1,000 SSP ($0.22). These services are especially common in rural areas and among public sector workers who receive their wages via mobile money platforms.
The directive was signed by Abraham Dut Atemal, Director of the Supervision Department within the Directorate of Supervision and Financial Stability at BoSS.
For inquiries, institutions and individuals are encouraged to contact the Directorate through the official email: info@boss.gov.ss or by visiting the BoSS headquarters in Juba.
