(RUMBEK) – A senior delegation from the Bank of South Sudan (BoSS) has inspected the newly renovated BoSS Currency Centre in Rumbek, Lakes State.
Led by the Director General for Banking Operations Dr Chan Andrea Chan, the visit on 24 September 2025 was part of final preparations ahead of the facility’s official opening.
The inspection was attended by Lakes State Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hon Stephen Mathiang Deng, representing Governor Rin Tueny Mabor and National MP Hon Dr Akol Paul Akordit. Both officials highlighted the importance of the centre for the local community and the region.
Minister Deng expressed gratitude to the President of South Sudan and the Central Bank leadership for locating the currency centre in Lakes State. He said the decision recognises the contributions of local communities and is a step towards providing easier access to banking services:
“This is a payback to the people of Lakes State who will be the first beneficiaries”.
He added that women, workers, and future generations will benefit from the facility, and that the state government will ensure security for staff and visitors.
Dr Akol described the project as a milestone for the region and in line with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) development agenda.:
“The success in Rumbek shows that such projects can be replicated in other towns across South Sudan, including Yambio, Nzara, Nasir, Pagak, Nimule and Aweil.”
Dr Chan explained that the BoSS inspection team included specialists in banking operations, IT, infrastructure, electrical systems and air conditioning. Their role was to ensure the facility is fully ready for operations and to prepare for the grand opening, which will be officiated by Governor Rin Tueny Mabor.
The renovation work was completed by Dreams Engineering Company. CEO Boum Andrew Makur thanked the government and local community for their support, emphasising that the project contributes not only to the infrastructure but also to the development of the region and its people.
The Rumbek Currency Centre is expected to make currency and banking services more accessible to residents and local businesses. Previously, many had to travel to Juba to access such services. The facility will reduce operational costs, improve security, and support the growth of small businesses.
The official opening is expected in the coming weeks, and the facility will immediately begin operations, bringing financial services closer to the people of Lakes State.
