(MOROBO COUNTY) – The Relief and Rehabilitation Commission in Morobo County, says hundreds of internally displaced persons in Lujulo Payam are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance after fleeing violence in Aboroto Village on Monday.

The displaced people, mostly women and children, were forced to leave their homes following an alleged attack by armed groups who reportedly burned houses and looted personal belongings. Local residents and officials say one person was shot during the incident on Monday.

“The humanitarian situation people need urgent response. They were displaced, one of the residents was shot and tukuls burnt and due to fear, they fled the area and the chiefs will give us an update on the number of the displaced people and the immediate response needed is food and non-food items.” He said.

The commissioner called on armed groups to embrace peaceful dialogue and end the suffering of civilians.

“We must uphold human dignity, and we want to see a community where people can live in peace, free from fear,” He stated.

The commissioner is urging those involved in the violence to reconsider their actions and allow the community to recover from trauma that has lingered since the 2016 crisis.

In response to the escalating insecurity, the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces, or SSPDF, have increased their presence in the area to help restore calm and reassure affected communities.
