(MOROBO COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Morobo County in Central Equatoria State has appealed to residents at home and in the diaspora to support peace and reconciliation efforts as the county enters 2026.
Commissioner Charles Data Bullen said Morobo remains in need of unity and stability following repeated incidents of insecurity and reported human rights violations during 2025. The county, which borders Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo, has faced ongoing challenges that have affected community relations and development.
In a written end of year and New Year message shared on social media platforms, the commissioner said 2026 should mark a new chapter for peace, forgiveness, and development in Morobo County. He called on residents to reflect on shared values and work together for the common good.
He said embracing peace would help strengthen harmony and peaceful co existence among communities within the county and with neighbouring areas. He added that unity among residents, both inside the country and abroad, is essential for rebuilding trust and supporting local administration.
Commissioner Data also appealed to armed opposition groups operating in the area to stop violence and allow space for dialogue. He said continued aggression harms innocent civilians and delays prospects for lasting peace.
He urged all stakeholders to reject violence and support dialogue, understanding, and reconciliation as the only path to ending the suffering of ordinary citizens in Morobo County and beyond.
The commissioner praised residents for their resilience and for supporting his administration during a difficult year. He acknowledged that misunderstandings and divisions emerged at times but said these should not define the future of the county.
He called on residents to move past grievances and focus on the positive steps made together, urging them to begin 2026 with renewed commitment to unity and cooperation.
Key issues highlighted in the commissioner’s message:
| Area | Focus for 2026 |
|---|---|
| Peace | Ending violence and insecurity |
| Unity | Strengthening community relations |
| Dialogue | Engaging armed groups and leaders |
| Reconciliation | Addressing past grievances |
| Development | Creating space for services and growth |
