(MOROBO COUNTY) – More than 60 cattle were stolen in Bazi area, Kili Kili Boma of Gulumbi Payam in Morobo County, Central Equatoria State, on Tuesday 2 December 2025, according to local authorities and residents.
Budili Moses, the area chief of Kili Kili Boma, said a group of unidentified armed men entered the community and forced owners to surrender their cattle at gunpoint before driving the herd away in the evening.
He said he had already reported the incident to the county government and urged officials to ensure that the cattle are recovered and returned to their rightful owners. He added that the attack has left residents worried and called on the authorities to strengthen security to protect civilians and their property.
One resident who asked not to be named for safety reasons said his family had lost all its cattle during the raid.
“All our cows, including those belonging to my father, were taken. We lost everything,” he said.
Human rights defender Victor Batali Silas condemned the incident and appealed to both state and county officials to help recover the livestock:
“We have been reliably informed that these cattle were raided by unknown armed men. We appeal to the government to investigate and ensure the animals are returned to the residents.”
Batali added that ongoing insecurity and property looting threaten livelihoods and discourage people returning from refugee camps in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo from resettling in their communities:
“We demand justice and accountability. The perpetrators should be identified and held responsible. It is the duty of the government to protect civilians and their property.”
Attempts to reach county authorities for comment were not successful.
Morobo County sits on the south western border with Uganda and DR Congo and has experienced repeated clashes between government and opposition forces since April. Reports of human rights abuses have continued in recent months, raising concern among community leaders.
