(MOROBO COUNTY)– A civil society activist and human rights defender in Morobo County is appealing to local authorities to provide an update on the investigation into the killing of a young businessman earlier this year.
In Early February 2026, the Commissioner of Morobo County, Charles Data Bullen, directed organized security forces to launch an immediate and comprehensive investigation into the murder of local entrepreneur Simon Bidali and the reported assault of his wife by an armed attacker.
Bidali, widely known as Bangutu, was killed late on the night of January 28, 2026. According to family members who spoke during his funeral in Ududra, an armed man allegedly broke into their home around midnight, stole cash and other property, and forced Bidali and his wife to Adekede River, where Bidali was shot dead.
Mawa Manase, Head of the Morobo County Civil Society Network, says there has been no clear communication from authorities regarding the progress of the investigation or whether any suspects have been identified or arrested.
He is now urging county authorities to update the public on the matter.
“My voice to the local government authority is that they should ensure the safety of civilians and their properties in Morobo County. Secondly, when cases of human rights violations happen, they should not go mute because the public needs to be aware if the perpetrator is held responsible. This builds hope between the citizens and the government. When things go silent without a report, it is not good.”
According to Mawa, residents of Morobo County are demanding swift action to ensure justice for the victim and stronger protection of civilians and their property.
