Police authorities in Morobo County of Central Equatoria State have launched an investigation following the murder of a local businessman in Morobo County last week.
Acting police inspector Captain Julius Nyerere told Access Radio that unknown armed man attacked and shot dead Simon Bidali a local trader commonly known as Bangutu at his residence in Andelizu village and the same killer later raped the late’s wife at gun point.
The police have been informed about what happened on Wednesday where a man known as Bangutu was shot dead near the Akedeke stream at around 11:00 PM. His wife was raped and is currently receiving treatment and a case has been opened to investigate and track the assailants,” said Julius.Close family relatives of the deceased say the gunman followed late ‘Bangutu’ right from Morobo market where his shop is located and broke into his home. The unknown gunman stole money and valuables before killing him and assaulting his wife. This is the second time involving two businessmen killed since the beginning of this year in Morobo County. Morobo County Charles Data Bullen who visited the scene and the funeral place on Thursday, condemned the incident and urged the police and the security operatives to swiftly investigate the matter.
“The commissioner has directed all organized security forces in the county to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the tragic killing of local entrepreneur Simon Bidali, commonly known as Bangutu, and the alleged sexual assault of his wife by an armed assailant” the press statement partly reads.Data revealed that unverified sources had earlier reported suspicious movement of an individual carrying a rifle in the area, which unfortunately went unreported to the authorities. The Commissioner emphasized that such negligence poses danger to the community and must be avoided. He urged residents to promptly report any suspicious activity to security organs to prevent future tragedies. The Commissioner strongly condemned the killing, noting that this incident follows the fatal shooting of a 24-year-old youth about a month ago. He described the emerging pattern of young entrepreneurs falling victim to gun violence as alarming and unacceptable and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to safeguarding the lives and property of all citizens. Data further expressed the county government’s deepest condolences and solidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time. The Office of the Commissioner calls upon the public to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and continue to support efforts aimed at maintaining peace, safety, and stability in Morobo County. Insecurity in Morobo County remains a major challenge throughout 2025.
