(MOROBO COUNTY) – Morobo County authorities, working with the ACROSS organisation, on Saturday held the fifth annual cultural gala aimed at promoting peaceful coexistence among communities in the county of Central Equatoria State.
The event, held on 1st February 2026, brought together residents from across Morobo County under the theme Cultural Participation for Peaceful Coexistence. Large crowds attended to watch traditional dances, songs and storytelling representing the county’s diverse communities.
The County Executive Director, Ezbon Gale, attended as the chief guest, alongside other county officials, traditional chiefs and community leaders.
Speaking at the event, senior county administrator Jackson Baker said the cultural gala plays an important role in reviving Morobo’s cultural heritage, which he said is slowly declining, especially among young people. He urged residents to take part in traditional activities and to protect their cultural values and identity.
Baker said culture defines the identity of the community and added that it is important for the younger generation to reconnect with its roots through such gatherings.
In his remarks, Executive Director Gale praised the ACROSS organisation for its continued support in promoting culture and traditions among local communities. He said cultural events help young people understand their background, customs and practices, and contribute to stronger social ties and peaceful coexistence.
Gale also warned against heavy dependence on non governmental organisations for cultural activities. He called on traditional leaders, led by the Paramount Chief, to take greater responsibility in organising cultural events, saying the county government would support such efforts.
The cultural gala ended with renewed calls from county leaders and elders for unity, cultural pride and active community involvement in preserving Morobo County’s cultural heritage.
