
Commissioner Lodu Hosts Cultural Conference in Terekeka/PHOTO CREDITS: County Press Unit
(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Terekeka County, Hon Dr Emmanuel Loku Lodu, officially opened the Mundari Cultural Conference on Tuesday, 13 January 2026. The conference is part of preparations for the upcoming cultural festival, scheduled from 16 to 18 January in Terekeka.
The festival will be held under the theme Yi Mundari Ryöju Ringit i Keri, which translates to We Mundari Find Strength in Our Culture. Speaking at the opening, Dr Lodu highlighted the importance of culture in society, saying that culture is most valuable when it is well represented.
He noted that while Mundari culture has gained recognition internationally, there remains a need to improve understanding and access to education in Mundari lands.
Dr Lodu also called for unity among the Mundari people, describing it as a source of strength. He encouraged the community to welcome visitors from South Sudan’s 64 tribes to join in celebrating and sharing the country’s cultural heritage during the festival.
In related news, the county commissioner received a team from the South Sudan Pediatric Association at Terekeka Main Hospital on the same day. The team delivered essential medications for children and plans to conduct free surgical outreach in the county.
Dr Lodu expressed his appreciation for the support, thanking the President, H.E Salva Kiir Mayardit and the Ministry of Health for their contribution. He emphasised the critical role of medical assistance in improving child health and acknowledged the ongoing efforts of the pediatric team to reach children in need.
A statement from the Commissioner’s Office and County Press Unit stated the combined cultural and medical initiatives reflect Terekeka County’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while improving social services and health outcomes for its residents.
