(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Archbishop of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church of South Sudan and Uganda, Elias Taban Parangi, has called on political leaders and armed groups to end violence and commit to dialogue as the country faces continued insecurity.
In a statement shared with Access Radio on Wednesday, Archbishop Taban said the people of South Sudan cannot withstand another destructive war and urged all sides to place peace above conflict.
He said ongoing violence has caused deep harm to communities, families and individuals across the country and called for a shared commitment to reconciliation and understanding.
The Archbishop urged all parties to engage in constructive dialogue so that grievances can be addressed through peaceful means rather than violence.
He said South Sudan’s long history of instability makes it vital for leaders to act responsibly and protect civilians, adding that the future of the country depends on cooperation and harmony.
The Archbishop said his appeal reflects the concerns of many citizens who continue to suffer from conflict and insecurity, and called on all stakeholders to choose dialogue and unity for the sake of the nation.
His call comes as the United Nations has warned that continued violence could push millions of South Sudanese into renewed suffering. The UN said the country risks sliding into a full scale war if the crisis is not resolved through peaceful dialogue.
