(JUBA) – The Vice Chancellor of Emmanuel Christian University met the Governor of Central Equatoria State on Thursday to brief him on academic progress and development activities at the institution, as education continues to play an important role in rebuilding communities in South Sudan.
The meeting took place between the Vice Chancellor, Daniel Ohide, and Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, with discussions centred on the growth of the university and its contribution to education and community development in the region. Both sides described the engagement as constructive and focused on shared responsibility for the future of young people.
During the meeting, the Vice Chancellor informed the Governor that Emmanuel Christian University has recorded an increase in student enrolment, with learners coming from different parts of South Sudan. He said this growth shows rising confidence in education as a source of hope, stability and opportunity for families affected by years of conflict.
Mr Ohide stressed that continued progress depends on a safe and accessible learning environment. He said improved security and better road infrastructure are essential to ensure students and staff can reach the campus safely and focus on learning.
The university also shared information on its community focused initiatives. Among them is a plan to establish coffee plantations to support local farmers, create income opportunities and strengthen economic self reliance in surrounding communities.
“This initiative reflects ECU’s belief that education must be practical, responsive, and closely connected to the everyday realities of the people it serves,” Mr Ohide said.
Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony welcomed the briefing and praised the university for combining academic work with community development. He said his administration considers security stabilisation a top priority and is ready to work with institutions of higher learning to create a supportive environment for students and educators.
The Governor also highlighted the wider role of education in bringing communities together, preparing future leaders and building strong human resources for South Sudan’s long term development.
Both the university leadership and the state government reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening the education sector and supporting initiatives that equip communities with knowledge, skills and practical opportunities. The meeting ended with an agreement to maintain close cooperation.
Emmanuel Christian University said it remains committed to serving South Sudan not only as a centre of learning, but also as a driver of community empowerment, ethical leadership and national development based on service and social responsibility.
The university is located about 18 miles from Yei town at Goli Boma in Tore Payam along the Yei Maridi road. It temporarily relocated to the Reconcile International compound in Yei town following the outbreak of conflict in 2016.
