(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – Security has been tightened in Yei River County ahead of Christmas and New Year celebrations, as local authorities move to ensure calm and safety during the festive period.
The Yei River County Commissioner, Hon Emmanuel Taban Seme, said security measures have been strengthened to protect residents and visitors in the county. He gave the assurance while speaking to the press on Thursday at the county headquarters.
Commissioner Taban said a full security plan has been put in place to make sure people celebrate Christmas and the New Year without fear. He said security forces will be visible across Yei town and nearby areas throughout the festive season.
According to the Commissioner, patrols will cover public celebration venues, residential neighbourhoods, internally displaced persons camps, the Yei Airstrip and other important installations. He said this is meant to prevent crime and respond quickly to any incident.
“The public is hereby informed that a comprehensive security plan has been put in place to ensure a peaceful and safe celebration of Christmas 2025 and the New Year across Yei town and its surrounding areas,” Commissioner Taban said.
He explained that several organised forces have been deployed to support the operation. These include the South Sudan National Police Service, the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces, National Security, the Prison Service, the Wildlife Service, Civil Defence and other security units.
The Commissioner called on residents to celebrate peacefully and to work closely with security personnel. He urged the public to report any suspicious activity or incident to the authorities so that it can be handled in time.
“We wish all residents a peaceful Christmas and a happy New Year 2026, and we reassure the public of our full commitment to maintaining safety and stability throughout the festive season,” he said.
The announcement comes as communities across South Sudan prepare for Christmas and New Year celebrations, with security remaining a key concern in many areas. Local leaders in Yei say strong cooperation between residents and security forces is important to keep the county calm during the holidays.
