(JUBA COUNTY) – Authorities in Central Equatoria State have pledged to strengthen security for farmers as the cultivation season begins, while continuing the removal of cattle from farming areas to reduce the risk of conflict between herders and local communities.
The State Security Committee said county officials and security forces had been instructed to work together to maintain peace in rural areas so residents can farm without disruption.
The measures are intended to support agricultural activity, improve household incomes and help strengthen food security in a region where farming remains a key source of livelihoods.
Officials also directed county commissioners and the coordinator of Wonduruba Payam to continue engaging cattle keepers to enforce the standing order requiring livestock to return to their places of origin. Authorities said the move is aimed at preventing disputes between farmers and herders during the planting season.
The committee renewed its appeal for residents to cooperate with security agencies and local authorities in carrying out the directives. It also said it remained committed to protecting people and property across the state.
The decisions were announced after the committee’s weekly meeting chaired by Central Equatoria Deputy Governor Paulino Lukudu Obede on behalf of Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.
