(LAINYA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Lainya County, Robert John Lasu Morris, has announced the completion of a new Women’s Association Center built in partnership with the International Organization for Migration, in a move aimed at strengthening women’s empowerment and community development in Central Equatoria State.
According to a statement released by the Lainya County Press Unit on Thursday, the centre is intended to support women across the county by providing access to training, shared space and services that can improve livelihoods and social wellbeing.
The county administration said the facility will serve as a central place where women can meet, learn and work together on economic and social activities that benefit their families and the wider community. Programmes planned for the centre include skills training, small business development and health education.
Local authorities said these activities are expected to help women increase their income opportunities and improve household welfare, while also encouraging greater participation of women in community development.
The partnership with the International Organization for Migration reflects continued cooperation between humanitarian agencies and local government in South Sudan to support recovery and development at community level, especially for women who were affected by years of conflict and displacement.
The county commissioner welcomed the completion of the project, describing it as an important step towards giving women a stronger voice and better opportunities in Lainya County.
Officials said the official opening of the Women’s Association Center will be announced in the coming days. Community members, women groups and development partners are expected to attend the launch to mark what the county described as a milestone for women’s empowerment in the area.
Lainya County, located in Central Equatoria State, has seen growing efforts by local authorities and partners to invest in community based projects that support peace, livelihoods and social recovery, with women and youth identified as key drivers of long term development.
