(Yei County) – More than 200 women graduated with advanced certificates in various business management and leadership disciplines on Friday.
The 213 women completed 12 months of training in skills such as women’s solidarity, the value of women’s work, gender equality, rights, decision-making, numeracy, business skills, savings, agribusiness, tailoring, and poultry keeping.
The year long training was conducted by the international NGO, Women for Women International.
According to the organization, the program focused on social and economic empowerment, equipping women with essential skills and resources to transform their lives.
Margret Poni, who trained in bakery business skills, expressed gratitude for the knowledge and skills she acquired, stating that they would work together to improve family sustainability.
“I am so happy with the new skills I have acquired from the training. I can now produce quality bread and other products using our local produce from the farms,” she added.
She urged the NGO and County authorities to establish women’s engagement centers at the boma level so that more women could benefit from the knowledge they have gained.

Abira Beatrice, another beneficiary, shared that the hairdressing course provided her with the necessary skills and confidence to start her own freelance salon business in Yei town.
“I specialized in hairdressing, and with the knowledge I have received from the Women for Women training program, it will help me to run my own salon business,” she noted.
Beatrice said that empowering more women with business management skills would not only contribute to individual economic independence but also promote the economic growth of the country.
Mariana Yayi Katoya, Country Executive Director of Women for Women International, appreciated the beneficiaries for their commitment and urged them to apply their acquired knowledge and skills in local entrepreneurship.
