(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Yei River County Education Department has released the results of the 2024/2025 South Sudan Certificate of Secondary Education (SSCSE) examinations, showing a 73 percent pass rate.
The results were officially announced at the County Secretariat on Monday, 3 November 2025, in a ceremony attended by teachers, parents, education officials and students.
The event was led by Hon Emmanuel Taban Seme, Commissioner of Yei River County, who praised both learners and teachers for their perseverance and hard work in difficult conditions.
Commissioner Taban commended the education community for their resilience in the face of challenges caused by years of conflict, poor infrastructure and limited resources.
“For years, our children have carried their books through the dust of conflict and the gaps left by broken infrastructure. Today, their determination shines brighter than ever,” he said.
He pledged to work closely with the County Education Department to rebuild and strengthen schools across Yei River County. The Commissioner also urged teachers to improve classroom planning, make use of modern teaching tools and create fair learning environments for all students.
A total of 961 candidates from 12 secondary schools sat for the examination, including 546 boys and 415 girls. Of these, 702 students passed, representing 73 percent, while 259 students, or 27 percent, did not meet the pass mark.

Despite the difficulties faced by the education sector, Commissioner Taban said the results reflect the community’s determination to keep education alive.
“Teachers taught under trees, children studied from torn books, and parents with very little means still encouraged their children to continue,” he said.
Among the top performing schools was Emmanuel Christian Academy Secondary School, recognised for its outstanding results for both boys and girls.
County Education Advisor, Ms Margret Joan Lomora, encouraged teachers to continue inspiring learners and urged the community to support education.
She called upon the government, churches, humanitarian partners and the diaspora to invest in Yei’s schools, saying every improvement made to classrooms, roads, and teacher training contributes to the nation’s future.
Commissioner Taban concluded his remarks with a message of hope:
“Our journey to rebuild may be long, but today we see proof that with faith, hard work, and unity, Yei River’s best days are ahead.”
