(KAJO-KEJI COUNTY) — The governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony has on Thursday extended a condolence message to the families of nine people who died in flash waters following heavy rain down pour at Lu’bajo Stream on Wednesday.
According to a statement issued by Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony, the victims were among mourners traveling to pay their final respects when the disaster occurred. The governor described the incident as “heartbreaking,” noting that it underscores the vulnerability of communities during extreme weather conditions.
“I have learned with great sadness of the death of nine people as a result of yesterday’s relentless rain,” the statement read.
Governor Adil extended his condolences to the bereaved families and the wider Kajo-Keji community, expressing solidarity with those affected by the tragedy. He called for unity and collective support to assist victims and their families during this difficult time.
“This tragic incident highlights the urgent need for solidarity and collective action to alleviate the suffering of our fellow citizens,” he said, urging residents to offer assistance wherever possible.
The governor also wished a speedy recovery to those injured, who are currently receiving medical treatment.
Authorities have not yet released further details on the full extent of the damage, but the incident has raised concerns about the impact of extreme weather and the need for improved safety measures in vulnerable areas.
The state government has pledged to stand with affected families as they mourn the loss of their loved ones.
