(JUBA) – Thousands of residents from Kajo-Keji County continue to live away from their homes after last month’s border clashes with Uganda’s Yumbe District, leaving families uncertain about their future.
On Thursday, 28 August 2025, community leaders briefed Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, Governor of Central Equatoria State, on the humanitarian and security challenges faced by those displaced.
Hon. Aggrey Tisa Sabuni, Chairperson of the Kajo-Keji Community Organization, described the situation on the ground as severe. He reported that heavy artillery used by the Uganda People’s Defence Forces during last month’s incident forced many residents to flee.
“Many families are still unable to return home due to insecurity,” he said, calling for stronger engagement between South Sudan and Uganda.
Hon. Tisa emphasised the need to reactivate the national border demarcation committee, describing it as crucial to achieving a lasting resolution.
Madam Ponny Tekila Gabriel, Coordinator of the Kajo-Keji Youth Association, highlighted the human impact of the crisis. Thousands of displaced residents face worsening health conditions, and education has been severely disrupted.
“Many pupils, especially those in candidate classes, risk missing final examinations,” she warned.
She praised the State government for facilitating aid delivery but said urgent and sustained action is needed to protect the most vulnerable.
The governor commended the leaders for their work and assured them that his administration is coordinating with national authorities, State ministries and development partners to address security concerns and mitigate the humanitarian impact of the conflict.
