(JUBA) – The Governor of Central Equatoria State has issued a statement expressing deep sorrow following a deadly incident in Kajo-Keji County that left several South Sudanese soldiers dead. The soldiers were reportedly killed on 28 July 2025 in what the state government has described as an unprovoked and tragic event involving Uganda’s People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).
Lt. Gen. Rabi Mujung Emmanuel, the Governor of Central Equatoria State, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the families, comrades and loved ones of the fallen soldiers. He described the event as a deeply regrettable incident and extended sympathy to the affected communities, particularly civilians who were displaced or lost property during the confrontation.
According to the Governor’s statement, many civilians in Kajo-Keji are now struggling without shelter, food, or essential supplies. In response, the Central Equatoria State Government is coordinating with humanitarian partners to deliver urgent assistance to the affected families.
The Governor emphasised that the incident should not have happened, especially in light of previously agreed frameworks between South Sudan and Uganda to address border issues. Both countries signed a joint border delimitation and demarcation agreement in 2014 to avoid such confrontations.
Reaffirming the state’s commitment to peace, Mujung stated that Central Equatoria remains focused on restoring calm, protecting civilians and working closely with national authorities to resolve the matter. He said the state government remains committed in its efforts to protect the dignity and wellbeing of all residents.
