(TEREKEKA COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Terekeka County, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Loku Lodu, has pledged full support for women’s empowerment and inclusive participation in the county’s development after meeting a delegation of representatives from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Terekeka Women Association, local chiefs, residential leaders, the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC) and the County Director for Land.
The visit took place at the Commissioner’s office in Terekeka and focused on gender equality and women’s involvement in community development.
The group briefed the Commissioner on ongoing efforts to strengthen women’s leadership and proposed the establishment of a Women’s Centre to support local innovation and self reliance among rural and urban women.
According to the delegation, the planned Women’s Centre will provide training and space for women to develop business skills, engage in market oriented activities and participate in decision making processes. They said the initiative aims to transform women into active contributors to the social and economic growth of Terekeka County.
The representatives also appealed to the Commissioner to continue offering protection and guidance to women’s groups while ensuring that their activities remain free from unnecessary interference.
In response, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel Loku Lodu welcomed the group and commended their efforts toward advancing women’s rights and development.
He promised full cooperation from the county government and affirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting gender balance and equal opportunities.
“Terekeka County cannot move forward without the participation of women. We must empower them to play their role in shaping the future of our communities,” he said.

In related developments, Commissioner Dr. Emmanuel Loku Lodu also received a delegation of visiting professionals from various European countries, including doctors, engineers and pastors. The visit was part of an exchange aimed at exploring partnerships in health, education and infrastructure development for Terekeka County.
Dr. Lodu expressed appreciation for the international delegation’s visit, saying such exchanges could help improve local capacity and foster cooperation between South Sudan and international partners.
