(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Chairlady of the Yei River County Women Association has strongly condemned the gang rape of three women in Tokori village, located in Lasu Payam, following a violent attack by unknown armed men last weekend.
According to reports, the incident occurred on Sunday evening when an unidentified group of armed men stormed Delego village market, looted property, and later assaulted the women.
Speaking after the incident, the Women Association Chairlady, Alice Siyama, described the act as a serious violation of women’s rights and a threat to peaceful coexistence within the community.
“We are not happy with what happened in Yei, especially in Tokori on Sunday where women were forcefully raped,” she said. “As mothers, we fear for the future of our country. We strongly condemn this act because it is unacceptable.”
Siyama called on local authorities and community leaders to take immediate action to investigate the incident and ensure justice is served.
“I am calling on the local government in Yei to investigate this issue with seriousness. Chiefs are the eyes of the community, and if the perpetrators are found, they must be brought to court. Justice must prevail so that peace can return,” she added.
On Monday, the Chairperson of the Yei Civil Society Forum, along with other concerned leaders, also condemned the attack, urging authorities to hold those responsible accountable.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of civilians, particularly women, amid ongoing security challenges in the area.
