(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Batali Malimbo, has urged residents to work together with the government to restore peace and maintain stable security across the county.
Malimbo made the call following growing concerns from residents, community leaders, and civil society groups, who have pressed county authorities to address insecurity in order to foster peace and socio-economic development.
Speaking at Yei Freedom Square during his reception on Wednesday, the commissioner emphasized that restoring peace and security is a shared responsibility between citizens and government institutions.
“People talk about security and insecurity in Yei. What I want to say is that, by definition, security and stability are the responsibility of all citizens. It is not only the responsibility of the commissioner, the army commander, national security, or the police—it is our collective responsibility. We must all stand together to maintain stable security in our county,” Malimbo said.
Yei River County has in recent months experienced a surge in insecurity, marked by incidents of abductions of humanitarian workers, rape, and looting of civilian property.
