(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Commissioner of Yei River County, Samuel Henry Malimbo, on Thursday called on officials at the Immigration Department to improve their operations and strengthen coordination with the national office in the production of national ID cards and passports for the local population.
According to Malimbo, the immigration unit plays a key role in ensuring that ordinary citizens have access to national identification documents.
“The issuance of national identity cards is a critical public service that enables citizens to access government programs and fully participate in national development,” he said.
He also emphasized the economic importance of the immigration office, noting that its services contribute to government revenue collection.
Malimbo expressed his full commitment to collaborating with both local and national institutions to deliver basic social services to citizens at the grassroots level.
Meanwhile, Captain Philip Kwai, who led the delegation, said the visit was intended to formally welcome the new county leadership and brief the commissioner on ongoing activities of the Immigration Department in the greater Yei region.
Kwai noted that more than 2,500 residents from the greater Yei region have registered to acquire national identity cards this year.
He also appealed to the county administration to allocate a more accessible location to improve their operations, explaining that the current office space in Hai Jamia is not easily visible or accessible to many residents.
In response to infrastructure challenges, Malimbo said his office would coordinate the allocation of public land for immigration authorities. However, he called for collaboration and support from development partners such as the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) to help construct a new office facility and improve service delivery.
