Yei Residents Finally Collect National Identity Cards/PHOTO CREDITS: Specimen Handout
(YEI COUNTY) – Residents in Yei River County have begun receiving national identity cards after long delays, with more than 1,100 documents now ready for collection.
The issuance exercise started on Monday and is expected to cover applicants who submitted their details between 2024 and 2025. Many residents had waited nearly two years to receive the cards.
Officials said the delay was caused by printing challenges that slowed the production and delivery of the documents.
An official from the immigration department, Moses Paul Lokiko, said the current exercise includes identity cards for residents of Yei as well as applicants from nearby counties.
He said cards for Morobo, Kajokeji and Lainya will be distributed through their respective county authorities to ensure wider access adding that:
“The rollout is part of a broader effort to improve access to official identification in Central Equatoria, a key requirement for public services, travel and administrative processes in South Sudan.”
