(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Civil Registry, Nationality and Passport Department in Yei River County has received more than 4,000 printed nationality cards and 17 passports, offering relief to thousands of residents who have waited years for their documents.
Speaking to the media on Monday, the Acting Director of Civil Registry, Nationality and Passport in Yei, Captain Philip Kual, said the documents belong to applicants who submitted their requests between 2022 and 2026.
Captain Kual described the arrival of the documents as a major step towards clearing a longstanding backlog that had left many citizens without proof of nationality and travel documents.
“The majority of pending applications have now been processed and are ready for collection,” he said.He explained that individuals seeking nationality certificates must first obtain an age assessment, a blood group card, and present a witness during the application process. According to Kual, applicants whose witnesses are unavailable can use the nationality card of their area leader to support their applications. The delivery of the documents is expected to benefit thousands of residents across Greater Yei by improving access to essential services that require proof of identity and citizenship. Captain Kual further revealed that the official launch of the document collection exercise is expected to take place later this week, when applicants will be informed about the process for receiving their nationality cards and passports. The development is expected to significantly reduce waiting times and strengthen access to legal identification for residents in Yei River County and surrounding areas.
