(NIMULE) – Cargo truck movement along the Nimule Juba highway has resumed after authorities cleared a backlog at the Nimule border post, easing congestion that had delayed supplies into South Sudan.
Officials say trucks that had been stranded due to clearance challenges have now been released and are heading to Juba. The improved flow of goods is expected to stabilise supply, including fuel, and may lead to a drop in prices in the capital.
The development follows a visit by a high level delegation from the South Sudan Revenue Authority to assess operations and address the congestion. The team inspected cargo movement, reviewed clearance procedures and checked the number of trucks already processed and those previously delayed.
The delegation also visited the Nimule Customs Division and the customs checkpoint to monitor operations. It inspected the construction site of the Inland Customs Clearance Area in Jalle, which is reported to be progressing well and is expected to support faster cargo handling once completed.
Authorities said the congestion had built up in recent days due to delays in cargo clearance, leading to long lines of trucks along the highway.
The Deputy Commissioner General of the South Sudan Revenue Authority, Solomon Ariik, said discussions were held with local authorities, traders and other stakeholders to resolve the situation.
He said many trucks have now been cleared and are on their way to Juba, adding that the increased supply could help reduce market prices in the coming days.
The Mayor of Nimule, Caesar Longa Fuli, said the situation in the town has improved, with fewer trucks and reduced congestion.
He said traffic is now moving and expressed confidence that conditions will return to normal soon.
