(NIMULE, MAGWI COUNTY) – The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards has rejected eight trucks carrying maize grain at the Nimule Border Station after the consignments failed to meet national quality and safety standards.
In a statement issued on 24 February 2026, the Bureau said the trucks were turned back between the beginning of February and the date of the announcement following inspection and conformity assessment procedures.
According to officials, the maize consignments were found to be non compliant with established national requirements. The Bureau said entry was denied to safeguard public health, ensure food safety and uphold fair trade practices in South Sudan.
Nimule Border Station in Magwi County, Eastern Equatoria State, is one of the country’s main entry points for imported food products. Authorities say routine inspections are carried out to verify that goods meet approved national standards before being cleared for distribution in local markets.
The South Sudan National Bureau of Standards said it remains committed to protecting consumers and ensuring that all food products entering the country comply with national standards and regulatory requirements.
Importers were urged to adhere strictly to relevant standards and complete all required compliance procedures before shipment to avoid losses and delays at the border.
The Bureau thanked stakeholders for their cooperation and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening quality control systems and consumer protection across South Sudan.
