Refugee Leaders in Rhino Camp Receive Digital Skills Training to Strengthen Community Development

(RHINO CAMP, UGANDA) – Fifteen refugee community leaders in Eden Zone of Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement have begun a two-month Digital Literacy Training Programme aimed at strengthening leadership, communication, and community development.

The initiative, launched by Community Change for Development, commonly known as CC4D, seeks to equip refugee leaders with practical digital skills that will improve community coordination, enhance communication with humanitarian organisations, and increase access to online information and essential services.

Speaking during the launch, the Executive Director of CC4D, Mathew Duku Lubari, emphasised that digital literacy has become an essential tool for effective leadership and community empowerment in today’s increasingly connected world.

He noted that the training will help refugee leaders better serve their communities by enabling them to access information more efficiently, communicate effectively with humanitarian actors, and support improved service delivery within the settlement.

According to CC4D, the programme reflects the organisation’s commitment to localisation by ensuring that refugee communities have the knowledge and tools needed to lead solutions from within their own communities.

The organisation says investing in local leadership and digital inclusion will contribute to building more resilient communities while supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

CC4D has also called upon humanitarian agencies, development partners, donors, technology companies, and individuals to support efforts aimed at expanding digital literacy opportunities for both refugees and host communities.

The organisation believes strengthening digital skills among community leaders will help bridge the digital divide, promote community-led solutions, and create lasting positive change in the lives of displaced populations.

The Digital Literacy Training Programme is expected to run for two months and will provide participants with practical knowledge to navigate the digital world and better respond to the needs of their communities.
