(JUBA) – President Salva Kiir Mayardit has commended South Sudan’s national basketball teams for their outstanding achievements on the international stage, describing their success as a source of pride and a symbol of the country’s growing reputation around the world.
The President made the remarks on Monday during a meeting with the President of the South Sudan Basketball Federation, Luol Deng Ajou, at the State House in Juba. During the meeting, Luol Deng briefed the Head of State on the progress and performance of the country’s national basketball teams.
President Kiir praised the athletes and the basketball federation for their dedication and commitment to promoting South Sudan through sports. He noted that the teams’ achievements have brought honour to the nation and demonstrated the talent and potential of South Sudanese youth.
The President also reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting the growth and development of basketball across the country. He stressed the importance of investing in young people through sports, describing it as a powerful tool for national unity, social development, and international recognition.
For his part, Luol Deng thanked President Kiir for his continued support of sports development and highlighted the federation’s efforts to nurture young talent and strengthen South Sudan’s presence in global basketball competitions.
South Sudan’s basketball teams have gained international recognition in recent years, earning praise for their performances in major continental and global tournaments and helping to raise the country’s profile on the world stage.
The government has repeatedly expressed its commitment to supporting national teams, viewing sports as a platform for promoting unity, inspiring young people, and showcasing South Sudan’s potential to the international community.
