30 Leaders in Yei Undergo Digital Literacy and Online Safety Training

(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – At least 30 leaders drawn from youth groups, women’s organizations, civil society, religious, education and local government institutions are undergoing a three-day training on digital literacy and online safety in Yei River County.

The training, organised by Internet Society South Sudan, aims to equip participants with essential digital skills, promote responsible internet use, and strengthen efforts to combat online hate speech, cyberbullying and misinformation.

Participants are also being introduced to practical ways of using digital technologies to foster peacebuilding, enhance communication and create economic opportunities within their communities.

Speaking to Access Radio on Tuesday, James Yatta Ambros, Manager of the Yei Community Resource Centre, said the training follows the recent installation of internet services at the centre by Internet Society South Sudan.

He noted that the initiative is designed to help community stakeholders maximise the benefits of internet access while promoting safe and responsible online behaviour.

“This training is all about digital literacy and online safety. Following the installation of internet services at the Yei Community Resource Centre by Internet Society South Sudan, participants will learn how to use the internet positively to promote peace, reduce online hate speech and cyberbullying, and contribute to community development,” Ambros said.

He added that the training will empower participants to utilise digital platforms for education, information sharing and economic empowerment while encouraging responsible online engagement.

The programme brings together a diverse group of community leaders expected to transfer the knowledge gained to their respective organisations and communities, helping to build a more informed and digitally resilient society.

The three-day training is expected to conclude on Wednesday.
