(Juba) – As part of its annual #21DaysOfYelloCare campaign, MTN South Sudan has carried out a digital literacy outreach in Sherikat, a suburb of Juba, by organizing training sessions for students and teachers from different educational institutions. The initiative focused on boosting digital skills and access to online resources, including health and financial services.
During the session, MTN introduced participants to the “Internet of Good Things,” a free online platform designed to provide life-improving information on health, education, and empowerment. Some attendees were given the chance to access and explore the platform in real time using mobile devices and onsite internet connections. The aim was to expose users to reliable and accessible information that can help them make informed decisions in their daily lives.
In addition to this, MTN also offered practical training on Mobile Money services. Participants were taught how to use digital financial tools to carry out transactions, manage their money securely, and reduce reliance on cash-based systems. The Mobile Money sessions emphasized security, ease of use, and the growing importance of digital finance in modern economies, particularly for communities with limited access to traditional banking infrastructure.
MTN South Sudan described the campaign as a broader effort to bridge the digital divide by fostering digital literacy and improving access to useful online services. The company said these kinds of outreach efforts are crucial in building a digitally inclusive society where everyone, including young people and educators, can benefit from connectivity and technological advancement.
Company staff said the Sherikat sessions are part of a wider commitment to use technology as a tool for social impact, especially in communities that remain on the margins of digital development.
The training sessions concluded with a pledge to continue working with local institutions and expand similar programs to other communities across the country.
