(YEI RIVER COUNTY) – The Yei Football Association has suspended two players and opened an investigation into match officials following disorder during a local league match played in Yei town earlier this week.
In an official disciplinary report dated 19 December 2025, the association said its organising committee met after an incident that occurred during a league match between Easter Football Club and Atlabara Football Club on 17 December 2025.
According to the association, the committee reviewed the referee’s match report, statements from eyewitnesses and available video footage. The review found that acts of misconduct and physical assault by some players from Easter Football Club caused serious disorder, forcing match officials to stop the game before full time.
The Yei Football Association said the findings were recorded by the match officials and confirmed that the situation made it impossible for the match to continue safely.
Based on Article seventy eight of the South Sudan Football Association General Regulations, as amended in 2019 and 2025, the organising committee announced disciplinary measures against individuals involved.
Two players from Easter Football Club, Joseph Aluong who plays as a forward and James Wani who plays as a goalkeeper, have been suspended from all football related activities for a period of one year. The suspension took effect from 19 December 2025.
The association also placed the referee and assistant referees under disciplinary investigation. It said the officials are being reviewed for failing to issue appropriate cautions or dismissals to players involved in misconduct and for not maintaining effective control of the match in line with the Laws of the Game and national regulations.
The Yei Football Association said a separate disciplinary hearing will be held by its referees committee to decide whether sanctions should be taken against the match officials.
In an advisory statement, the association strongly urged Easter Football Club to take steps to improve discipline among its players, officials and supporters. It said this is necessary to protect safety, fairness and the smooth running of football activities within Yei River County.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to discipline, fairness and respect for the Laws of the Game, saying these principles are essential for the growth of football in South Sudan.
