(JUBA) – The Government of South Sudan has started a new national plan to guide the country’s development for the next ten years.
The plan is called the South Sudan Development Plan 2026 to 2036. It was launched in Juba on 10 September 2025 by the Minister of Finance and Planning, Hon. Athian Ding Athian.
The Minister said this is an important moment for the country. He explained that the plan will help South Sudan move towards peace, stability and growth. He also said the plan will use lessons from the past and focus on new ideas like making the economy stronger, creating jobs and improving services.
The UN Resident Coordinator, Madam Anita Kiki, welcomed the new plan. But she warned that the country is still facing many problems. These include hunger, conflict, climate shocks and diseases. She said leaders must talk to each other, make peace and listen to all voices so that the plan can succeed.
The Chairperson of Parliament’s Finance Committee, Hon. Michael Ayuen, praised the Ministry of Finance and partners for their work. He promised that Parliament will support the plan and make sure it is improved where necessary.
The plan will begin in June 2026. This is the same time when the new budget year starts.
The government says the South Sudan Development Plan is a chance to build peace, improve roads and schools and reduce the country’s heavy dependence on oil.
| Goal of the Plan | What it Means for People |

| Stronger Economy | Jobs, businesses and less dependence on oil |
| Better Infrastructure | Roads, water, power and communication improved |
