RSF Aids South Sudan Journalists With Cameras and Recorders/Handout
(JUBA) – Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has donated professional media equipment, including cameras and recorders, to support journalists working across South Sudan.
The initiative, launched on Thursday at the AMDISS Centre in Juba, aims to enhance the quality of local journalism and promote free access to reliable information.
RSF’s South Sudan Coordinator, Maura Ajak, said the organisation’s goal is to help journalists tell important stories despite the many challenges they face.
“The right to free and reliable information is not a privilege; it is a fundamental human right,” Ajak stated. “We understand that journalists in South Sudan work under difficult conditions, and our mission is to support their professionalism.”
The donation was made in partnership with the Association for Media Development in South Sudan (AMDISS), the National Press Club of South Sudan (NPC-SS), and the Union of Journalists of South Sudan (UJOSS). These local organisations will manage a structured loan system to ensure the equipment is fairly distributed and accessible to reporters across the country.
Ajak commended the collaboration among local media groups, describing it as a key step towards strengthening South Sudan’s press.
“We are excited to see the stories that will come out of this initiative,” she said.
RSF, known globally by its French name Reporters Sans Frontières, has been advocating for press freedom and journalist safety for nearly 40 years. The organisation said it will continue to work closely with South Sudanese media institutions to promote ethical reporting and access to factual information.
