(NAIROBI) – Twelve South Sudanese trainees including four women have completed professional training as air traffic controllers at the East African School of Aviation in Nairobi, Kenya. The graduation marks an important step for South Sudan’s efforts to improve air safety and develop more skilled professionals in the aviation sector.
The graduation ceremony held on 31 October 2025 brought together participants from South Sudan, Eswatini, Namibia, Angola, Uganda, Somalia, Comoros and Kenya. The training was designed to help countries in the region meet international aviation standards and promote cooperation among African states.
The Acting Director of the East African School of Aviation, Dr Oliver Sindabi, led the ceremony and presented certificates to the graduates. He praised their hard work and said their new skills will help make African skies safer and more efficient.
Representing the South Sudan Civil Aviation Authority (SSCAA), Mr Meen Chol Majur, the Training Programmes Manager, congratulated the graduates and urged them to serve with professionalism. He said the authority is proud to see more South Sudanese, especially women, joining the aviation field.
The group completed nine months of intensive training that covered Approach Control, Aerodrome Control, and Area Control. The programme followed the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices, which are recognised across the world.
SSCAA said the new graduates will help improve air traffic management and strengthen the country’s aviation system. The authority added that training more local professionals is part of its plan to make South Sudan’s skies safer and support future economic development through reliable air services.
